The Italian language newspaper Corriere is reporting that Prime Minister Harper will be in Vaughan to announce that former OPP Commissioner Julian Fantino will be the Conservative candidate for the riding:
VAUGHAN – Prime Minister Stephen Harper will be at Vaughan next Friday to announce the nomination of Julian Fantino a representative of the Conservative Party in the next-elections that should take place in December along with two other-elections that are to be held in Manitoba and a fourth in the district of Prince George-Peace River, which will be vacated on 25 October by the Conservative MP Jay Hill has already announced his resignation.

An insult to Caledonia, an insult to justice and an insult to Conservative supporters

We have been working behind the scenes and posting key evidence online to try to help the party understand that having Fantino as a candidate is not in its best interests in that it signifies that the CPC is willing to embrace a future that includes racial policing directed against innocent victims of extremism as an alternative to protecting those victims. We want no part of any party that embraces such views. As one prominent Conservative supporter in Haldimand who understands the issues better than most told us privately, ”This is just wrong.”
I suggested that the party at least wait until they had a chance to read Christie Blatchford’s book, HELPLESS: Caledonia’s Nightmare of Fear and Anarchy, And How The Law Failed All of Us, due on bookshelves Oct 26th. (We just received advance copies today), and I provided an extensive list of documentation and other resources online:

Julian Fantino shares a joke with one of the leaders of illegal occupations, and the man who led a vicious swarming attack that put two non-natives in hospital on Dec 01/07. Fantino wrote a letter of reference to the Court for the man (who pleaded guilty to Assault) that blamed one of the victims for his injuries. Fantino later refused Mayor Trainer's request to meet with the most traumatized of Caledonia's victims. Fantino testified that he never meets with non-native protesters. It is now apparent that the party has decided to put short term gain ahead of fundamental justice, the rule of law and the concept of equality before the law in embracing Fantino’s outrageous conduct in Caledonia. We have now launched a website in support of an campaign to convince other Conservative supporters to join us in working to defeat both Julian Fantino in Vaughan and Haldimand/Caledonia MP Diane Finley as part of a long term plan to force the party to be conservative while protecting basic civil liberties and the rule of law.
As lifelong Conservative supporters who have seen and experienced the very worst of Fantino’s excesses (we have outstanding lawsuits against him for defamation, and against the OPP/Ontario government for false arrest – we were trying to raise a Canadian flag, really!) we are sorry our party has sunk so low and crossed a line that should never have been drawn.
